It is expected that the total number of Russian tourists coming to Turkey by the end of 2021 will reach 4.5-5 million, while the number of German tourists who will come to the Turkish tourism markets is estimated to be about 2.5-3 million.
That was stated by Mr. Firuz Bagli Kaya, President of the Federation of Turkish Travel Agencies, in an interview with Anadolu Agency about the latest developments in the tourism sector in Turkey.
Bagli Kaya stressed that Russian tourist activity in Turkey began upon Moscow lifting travel restrictions recently.
He explained that if there are no negative updates regarding the Corona epidemic during the upcoming period, with the continuation of Russian flights to Turkey, it is expected that the Russian turnout will increase in the summer and continue until the end of autumn.
Workers in the tourism sector in Turkey hope that fortunes will increase with a busy tourist season that will continue until next November.
Bagli Kaya pointed out that the number of Russian tourists who visited Turkey during 2019 reached 7 million Russian visitors.
As the number reached 2.7 million, in the first half of the year, it exceeded 4.3 million, from July to December of the same year.
He stressed that the Russian tourist season in Turkey has begun to recover in the second half of this year 2021 due to lifting travel restrictions, which made it difficult to get the same turnout rates that were achieved in 2019.
He pointed out that they expect that the number of Russian tourists to Turkey will reach 4.5-5 million by the end of the year if Russian flights continue without interruption.
Bagli Kaya stated that the total number of planes that arrived at Antalya Airport on the 22nd of June of this year amounted to 144 planes, including 40 ones coming from Russia, on the first day upon lifting Russia travel restrictions.
Bagli Kaya stated that Germany lifts travel restrictions to areas with low numbers of infections, starting from next 1st of July.
"All criteria set by Germany, for countries to be lifted from travel restrictions, apply to Turkey. Therefore, it is expected that Berlin completely lifts travel restrictions to Turkey on 1st of July," he added.
He stated that the number of German tourists in Turkey reached 5 million in 2019, of whom 1.8 million tourists already visited the country during the first half of this year.
And 3.2 million in the second half, pointing out that Turkey is one of the significant tourist destinations that attract German tourists' attention.
He added, "We knew through our meetings with our colleagues in Germany that there is an increase in bookings and sales of tourist trips to Turkey, so we can say that German tourists will be hosted in our country as of next July."
He explained, "If no new travel restrictions are imposed due to the pandemic, the total German visitors at the end of this year are expected to reach about 2.5 to 3 million tourists.
In this context, Bagli Kaya indicated that 2019 witnessed the arrival of 876,000 French tourists to Turkey; besides, Paris' decision to remove Turkey from the list of forbidden countries to travel to will lead to the arrival of a large number of French tourists.
He added that this decision would cancel the compulsory quarantine of citizens returning from Turkey, which prompted many French tourism companies to speed up their preparations to launch charter flights to Turkey.
He added, "Therefore, it is expected that the number of French tourists will reach approximately 400-500 thousand after the decreased numbers last year due to the epidemic."
Bagli Kaya indicated that Switzerland removed Turkey from the list of prohibited countries to travel to as of this June, which leads to an increase in demand for booking trips to Turkey, according to the latest information received from tour planners in Switzerland.
He added that the number of Swiss tourists to Turkey by the end of this year is expected to reach 200-150 thousand, noting that the number of those who visited Turkey in the first half of 2019 reached 110 thousand, while the numbers reached 200 thousand in the second half of this year 2021.
